Introduction:
============
The BTS Laptop Utility is a Windows-based program
designed to be used in conjunction with Agilent's family
of base station test software and communications Test
Sets.

This program (when used with Agilent's base station test
software) provides:
  - data communications via VT-100 terminal emulation
     for connecting to a Switch
  - test result review and storage
  - screen capture for storing waveforms and instrument
     display information
  -  a test set terminal
  -  Telnet connection

In a standalone mode (with a Test Set) the program
provides:
  - screen capture for storing waveforms and instrument
     display information
  -  a test set terminal

Release Notes:
=============
These notes apply to revision A.02.00 of the BTS Laptop
Utility.
The software is now provided on two 3.5" floppy disks.
These changes are important when using the BTS Laptop
Utility in conjunction with the following Lucent base
station test software packages: Agilent Technologies
11807B option 043, 023, E6385A, E6559A and E6557A. This
release adds telnet capability for accessing the ECP
Craft Shell via the OMP while connected to a remote
access server. Prior to this release accessing the Craft
Shell could only be done via direct dialup connection to
the MSC. These enhancements provide minimal benefits for
customers using the BTS Laptop Utility for only logging
test data and screen captures.

The following enhancements and defect fixes have been
made to the E6385A option K01 BTS Laptop Utility software
in revision A.02.00:

1) Added Telnet connection capabilities for the switch
control port.
2) Fixed a problem where escape sequences from the test
set (such as "\\A")were occasionally being sent on to the
switch and not blocked by the BTS Utility.
3) Fixed BTS Utility to not time-out for screen captures
from the test set when connected at 9600 baud and below.
4) Changed default font at installation to Terminal 9 pt
for all screens.
5) Fixed detection of PhoneNRS.INI file so it could be
found when logging directories are different than the
location of the PhoneNRS.INI file.
6) Added online help information for configuration and
setting up a telnet connection.
7) Fixed line drawing graphics characters and keyboard
arrow keys for the enhanced VT100 terminal mode on the
switch terminal window.

These notes apply to revision A.02.04 of the BTS Laptop
Utility.
This software has been changed to Agilent Technologies.

The following enhancements and defect fixes have been
made to the E6385A option K01 BTS Laptop Utility software
in revision A.02.04:

1) Changed to Agilent Technologies
2) Fixed width of Switch Screen so hidden characters
would not occur.

Minimum System Requirements:
===========================
Minimum requirements for this program are:
  -  133 MHz P5 PC running Windows-95 or NT 4.0.
  -  800 X 600 16-color Super VGA video system.
  - 2 MB of free disk space.
  - Unrestricted (not shared) use of a Comm Port.
  - An additional Comm Port or Modem if the BTS Laptop
     Utility will be used with a Switch.

PC to Agilent Communications Test Set Connection:
===========================================
Cable connection between the PC and Agilent Communications
Test Set require a user-supplied null modem cable.
Refer to the respective Agilent Communications Test Set
documentation for null modem cables available from Agilent.

Software Installation:
=====================
    1. Insert disk 1 into floppy drive.
    2. Select Windows Start, Select Run, type drive
        letter and setup command (i.e. A:\setup).
    3. Press OK and follow the online instructions for
        finishing the installation.

If you have installed a previous revision of this program,
this installation will not overwrite your existing .INI
files (where your phone numbers and metakey assignments
are stored) if they are dated prior to the files being
installed. If you wish to be certain to preserve your
.INI files, you should chose a different directory for
this installation and copy your existing .INI files from
the old directory after installation is complete.

Communications Port Setup:
=========================
When running the software for the first time after
installation, set the Communication Port parameters as
follows:
    1. Activate the TS Terminal button on the
        main toolbar and select Preferences | Comm Port
        Setup from the main menu. This will allow access
        to Comm Port setup parameters for all windows.
    2. You may also wish to select a different font
        for each of the windows. Select Preferences |
        Font to select a font and adjust the size of each
        window to your preference.
    3. For more detailed instructions activate Help
        on the main toolbar and select the Getting Started
        section.

Operation without a Switch:
==========================
If your application does not use a modem or communicate
with a Switch, run the program with the "-NoSwitch"
command line parameter.

A Shortcut on the Desktop can have its properties edited
to include -NoSwitch in the "Target". For example:

     C:\BTSUtil\BTSUtil -NoSwitch

This will reduce the program's requirements to one Comm
port.
